Ladder gaskets are a type of gasket that look like a ladder lying down. It usually has many holes and the rungs of the “ladder” are elastomer. Normally, these gaskets are very precise and long. They are normally made out of an EMI/RFI shielding material like MIL-DTL-83528F. The spaces in between the rungs of the ladder are where the connections would go in a typical application. Given NEDC’s unique capabilities, NEDC can not only manufacture the ladder gaskets 100% in house; but also it has the capability to vulcanize these gaskets together if needed, and then cut them. This means NEDC has the capability of producing ladder gaskets that are up to 40” long. With material made out of MIL-DTL-83528F types, a bond would be used only if one had to be used. The bond of MIL-DTL-83528 materials made by NEDC meets or exceeds the strength of the material itself.
Although NEDC can manufacture MIL-DTL-83528F materials, It can also manufacture gaskets that are electrically conductive, that are not certified to the MIL-DTL-83528F, for example NEDC’s CE-007. CE-007 is a silicone nickel plated graphite material that is not certified to MIL-DTL-83528F but can be manufactured nonetheless.
